Ladies Room Fashion Show

Top layer top: Plato’s Closet
Bottom layer top: Thrifted
Jeans: Old Navy
Boots: Crocs

I threw this outfit together in a hurry when our little group decided to go out for dinner instead of cooking in Saturday night. I’m a sucker for the t-shirt over a long sleeved white shirt look, but this is just a little bit more grown up. I’m excited to use this shirt to transition into a spring wardrobe in a couple of months!  Yes, this mirror is FILTHY and if you look close, you can see Ariel in the background :).

Dress: Thrifted
Shirt: Gap Outlet
Belt: Thrifted
Leggings: Wal-Mart
Boots: JC Penny

I so very much loooooove this dress. It’s super comfy and yet it has a dressy look. And it looks pretty when I twirl. I added the orange chevron belt (out of a scarf) upon the advice of my awesome readers and I have to say, I think it looks pretty darn good. I wanted to tie it all together with an orange bracelet that my husband brought me back from Africa but when I put it on I realized it needed to be restrung. Ah, well.

Top: Thrifted
Skirt: New York & Company (a million years ago)
Tights: Payless
Shoes: Payless
Bracelet: Lia Sophia

I felt very professional in this outfit. This sweater always makes me feel good about myself and I received several compliments on this outfit. There’s an older teacher at my school who dresses really hip–any time she compliments my outfit I’m on top of the world. I can only hope I can dress as cool as her when I’m her age.

Top: Old Navy
Undershirt: Target
Coat: Target (from COLLEGE)
Scarf: Gift from SIL

An actual ladies room picture! Why so surprised in this picture?? Matt and I got to go on an unexpected weeknight date to see War Horse. We’ll try to see all 9 of the Best Picture nominees–3 down, 6 to go! Next time I’ll go with a dress and leggings for the movies, soooooo much more comfy than jeans and knee high boots.

Top: Thrifted
Jacket: Garage Sale
Belt: Thrifted
Pants: Thrifted
Boots: JC Penny

This is it! This is the inspiration outfit!! I do feel like it looked better than it photographed. As I mentioned in my sneak peak, this outfit didn’t really get to see the light of day. Be looking for it to reappear in the coming weeks! And weigh in on if you think I look more like Snow or Han Solo!

Hat: Goorin Bros

Top Layer Top: Plato’s Closet
Bottom Layer Top: Betsy Walker fan tee
Jeans: Hand me down from my skinny friend, Christy

Just because you’re stuck in the house with sick kids doesn’t mean that you have to scrub it out. I spent my Christmas money on some awesome hats from Goorin Bros. My hair’s waaaaaay to short for a pony tale, but it’s nice to have a slack-off day option. This is my first hat from Goorin Bros and I was really impressed with their customer service and quality of hats.  Be looking for more Goorin Bros hats to be making appearances in upcoming Ladies Room Fashion Show posts!

Cardigan: unexpected gift from my sweet friend, Suse
Tank: Target
Pants: Thrifted, repurposed into Skinnys
Shoes: gift from my SIL

My awesome friend Sue surprised me with this sweater in the mail yesterday! I love the color and the pattern. I decided to do something crazy today and not wear boots. I know, I am as shocked about it as you are. I love this outfit, though, and I felt great in it all day.

I can’t believe it’s Friday already or that this is my fourth ladies room fashion show! What did you think of this week outfits? Or any of them hits or misses??

LRFS Sneak Peak

This week’s LRFS inspiration comes from one of two places.  My awesome babysitter said I look like I pulled inspiration from Ginnifer Goodwin’s “Snow” on the new show Once Upon a Time (which if you’re not watching you totally should be).

I LOVE this show and my original idea for this super-short haircut came from Ginnifer’s short-but-sweet coif.  I was thrilled by this compliment.

However, right before I left for work, Matt had told me that my outfit looked like it was inspired by…..

Hans Solo.

So, which one was it?? Well, I’ll never tell.  I only wish I could have actually worn it.  I had on this “inspiration outfit” the day The Flash got sick all over the aforementioned awesome babysitter’s porch.  But the people at Wal-Mart seemed to appreciate it when I stopped by on my way home for supplies :).

Ladies Room Fashion Show

Strength & dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. Proverbs 31: 25

Some of these outfits make me giggle.

Top: Target
Skirt: Wal-Mart
Leggings: Wal-Mart
Boots: JC Penny

This is a really simple outfit. I love the little detail of the sequins on the shoulders. There was a time when my babies were little that I wouldn’t have worn anything like this because I would have had a head on my shoulder during part of the service. My baby days are behind me, and that makes me sad, but being able to rock shirts like this on a Sunday morning with my cute toddlers running around makes me really, really happy.

Bottom Layer Top: Old Old Navy

Top Layer Top: New Old Navy
Jeans: Old Navy
Boots: Crocs (BOGO with SIL)
Purse: 31 Mod Dot

I had no idea how much stuff I wore on a regular basis from Old Navy until I started this Ladies Room Fashion Show weekly post. You’re probably asking yourself, “Why so casual on a Monday, Mrs. Dilley??” We had off Monday for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day and it was glorious. We spent in the company of some new friends, then rounded off the evening with some old friends. I honestly can’t think of a better way to spend a rainy Monday.

Sweater: Cold Water Creek (Christmas gift from PJ–she got an amazing deal on this Day After Thanksgiving)
Top layer top: Thrifted
Bottom Layer top: Target
Pants: Thrifted, made into skinnys!
Boots: JC Penny

Yes, I made my pants into skinnys. Matt thought they looked fine before, but they were too short to wear heels and bunched around the knees when I wore boots. And let’s call spades spades here people, I wear A LOT of boots. I was super excited to finally get to wear this sweater. It is fabulous and I’m looking forward to many winters with it.

Sweater: Gift from my mother-in-law
Scarf: Wal-Mart
Shirt: Old Navy
Pants: Thrifted
Shoes: Payless

I get inspiration from a lot of places, but I straight up stole this outfit idea from my friend Traci at church. She has exactly the same sweater and paired it with a scarf and shirt combo and looked fantastic. Hers was all in shades of grey, silver and black, which was a lot classier than what I put together, but I like my combo, too. Free laugh: if you look closely, you can tell that I only have on one shoe in this picture.

Top layer top: Old Navy

Bottom layer top: No idea

Skirt: New York & Company
Leggings: Wal-Mart
Boots: JC Penny

Remix! Yup, this is almost exactly the same outfit I wore to Lisa’s shower a couple of weekends ago. I tucked in the shirt this time and I think the overall look is better. I also skipped the headband this time around because I didn’t think I could take it all day at work. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite go-to outfits.

Sweater: Pac Sun 10 years ago (true story)

Under shirt: Thrifted

Jeans: Old Navy

Boots: Crocs (BOGO with SIL)

Yes, this the the outfit inspired by my husband’s shirt. I love the red & blue together, and we all know how I feel about these boots. Yes, this shirt is 10 years old. My husband bought it for me for my birthday in 2001 back when he was just my boyfriend. It’s something I’ve never gotten rid of, but never thought I’d be able to wear again. Weight loss FTW. Friday FTW.

Happy weekend, friends.

LRFS Sneak Peak

She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all of her household are clothed in scarlet. Proverbs 31:21

Here’s a sneak peek at this week’s ladies room fashion show! This shirt of Matt’s served as my inspiration for one of my outfits this week!!

Ladies Room Fashion Show

Her clothing is fine linen and purple. Proverbs 31:22 (second half)

My first Ladies Room Fashion Show was a smash hit and I’m super excited for this week’s edition. I even found a verse in Proverbs 31 that corresponds with fashion. I love being able to dress modestly, frugally and (maybe just a little) fashionably.

Top: Old Navy (from my momma)
Tank Top: No idea
Skirt: New York & Company–BEFORE KIDS, folks! And it zips. Easily. Do the work, people. It’s worth it.
Leggings: Wal-Mart
Slip: No idea. Wear a slip girls–especially when wearing cotton on cotton.
Boots: JC Penny Day-After Thanksgiving Sale
Headband: Gift from my momma

Obviously, I love this outfit. I wore it to my friend Lisa’s baby shower Saturday. I love soft brown of the suede boots and the color of the flower in my awesome red hair. I’m also loving being a red head this season! If you look close, you’ll notice a bracelet I made by wrapping a long beaded necklace around my wrist. This is especially cool because they’re vintage beads that belonged to my Mimi.

Dress: Thrifted
Belt: Thrifted (picked out by The Flash)
Sweater: Bought it for my bridal shower 7 years ago–I sewed it up a little to help it hang better
Leggings: Wal-Mart
Boots: JC Penny Day-After Thanksgiving Sale
Hair Clip: Wal-Mart

Loved this outfit, too. I got a lot of compliments at church which is always good for the old self esteem. Also, isn’t our church bathroom cute??

Top layer Top: Thrifted
Bottom Layer Top: Old Navy a million years ago
Skirt: New York & Company, also a million years ago
Leggings: Wal-Mart (hey! guys! guys–guess where I buy my leggings??)
Boots: JC Penny Day-After Thanksgiving Sale
Bracelet: Matt brought it to me from Africa

I don’t love how dark this picture is. You can’t see the cute detailing on the bottom of the skirt. And those are the same light suede boots from two pics up–yeah. It’s too dark. This outfit was cute, but the cotton-on-cotton shirts kept sticking together in weird ways and bunching up. I felt like I had to keep pulling them down all day and I didn’t love that. My guess is you won’t be seeing this combo again. I love this shirt with the bracelet, though. Matt pick out good stuff :).

Top: Christmas gift from my momma
Pants: Thrifted & I hate them
Shoes: Thrifted
Necklace: Brighton gift from my hubby (only redeeming part of the outfit)

Some mornings I wake up and think “I should wear pants. I don’t have to wear skirts/dresses every day. Lots of people wear pants. I can handle pants. I look good in pants.” BLEEEEEEAAAA. Seriously, look at the leg on that pant. It’s ginormous. It makes me look bigger than I am. Not cool, folks. Not cool. This look just screams “classic teacher” to me. And not in that good way.

Top: Old Navy (gift from my momma)
Tank top: No idea
Skirt: B. Moss (yup, pre-kids, it’s old and it’s AMAZING. Lined, cool detailing. I love it)
Leggings: Wal-Mart
Boots: JC Penny Day-After Thanksgiving Sale
Hair Clip: I made it!

Trying to recapture some of the magic from Saturday’s outfit, I paired this top with an old tweed skirt and I love it. The photo’s too dark to see the cool lime greens and pinks running through this skirt, but trust me when I say that this outfit was fantastic in person. I would have never thought that I could tuck in my shirt, but I think it looks okay. This skirt was screaming for a tucked in shirt.

Dress: Thrifted
Shirt: Old Navy (yup, old again)
Leggings: Wal-Mart
Boots: JC Penny Day-After Thanksgiving Sale
Slip: No idea (unseen)
Earrings: Stole from PJ (sorry, PJ)

Remember last week when I said I wanted to wear a dress but couldn’t find the right leggings? This is it. I picked up this little gem at Plato’s Closet when Matt & I were there trying to find him pants for his Christmas Eve Service–which we totally did because Plato’s Closet is AWESOME–and I ran across this dress. For six dollars. Seriously. Why do people pay more than $6 for clothes??? I’ll never understand it. You can tell from the picture that I’m super excited to be wearing this dress. Mostly because it’s new, but also because it looks so tiny on the hanger. Truth be told, I’d love to see what it looks like just one size bigger on me, but that’s the only problem with resale. None the less, I’m trying to tone up, so I think this dress totally works now and only has the potential to look better in the future!

Top layer top: Thrifted–Plato’s Closet (new with tags!)
Bottom layer top: Betsy Walker concert t-shirt
Skirt: Wal-Mart, 1,000 years ago
Leggings: Also Wal-Mart
Boots: Crocs (BOGO with my SIL)

I draw fashion ideas from a lot of places–those blogs I mentioned yesterday, friends, magazines, people I see, ads, TV, movies….the list goes on & on. But this one? This idea?? I totally stole this look from a 3rd grader. Boots are big this year in 3rd grade (and their little feet look darn cute in ’em) and I have a little girl who wears stuff just like this all the time. I adapted it a little for a grown-up look. At least I hope it’s grow-up!! Also important for this look was WARMTH. It’s 17 degrees here today, so these boots were a must. And I think cotton leggings, knee high boots and a skirt are warmer than pants any day of the week.

Thanks for reading this week’s Ladies Room Fashion Show!! Tune in next week for round three!!

Belted Scarlet

Proverbs 31:21 (second half) ….for all her household are clothed in scarlet

It was suggested to me that I try belting my cotton dresses. My son picked out this awesome belt at Goodwill one day when we were there and INSISTED that I buy it. His favorite color is red. Belts at GW Fashions are $0.99, but this one happened to be the color of the day, so I got it for half price.

This dress is a little (some might say a lot) big, but cinching it in with the belt makes it totally wearable. The “scarlet” belt gives it a little tie into Proverbs 31 and I was able to take the advice of my awesome readers.

To see the rest if this outfit–and my other outfits from this coming week–tune in Friday for my Ladies Room Fashion Show!

Ladies Room Fashion Show

One of my favorite blogs, Dear Baby, used to have a weekly post called “Ladies Room Fashion Show” that I loved.  Melissa would share her weekly outfits for better or for worse (although I always thought she looked fabulous).  In the past couple of years, I’ve become increasingly interested in fashion.  I’ll blog more about that sometime soon.  Now that I have my own captive audience (that would be you.  How are you doing, by the way? Can I get you something to drink or maybe a pillow? You should really take your left hand off your face, it isn’t good for your skin.) I thought I’d give my own Ladies Room Fashion Show a try.  Here are a couple of this week’s outfits.

Top: Old Navy (Christmas present)
Pants: ?? Probably thrifted
Boots: JC Penny Day-After-Thanksgiving sale

Not super sure about these pants. They’re a bit short when they’re not tucked into boots and I don’t like the bunching around the knees. The chances of them being repurposed into skinny pants is high.

Shirt: Old Navy (before kids, it’s oooold)
Dress: Thrifted
Leggings: Target–compression pants
Boots: JC Penny Day-After-Thanksgiving Sale

Yup, those are compression pants and they made a HUGE difference in the way my leg felt at the end of the day. This dress is one of my all-time favorite thrifted finds. When I don’t know what to wear, I can throw it on and instantly look put-together. Or at least put-together for me :). My mother would say that this dress needs heeled boots, and she’d be right, but it’s not happening today–maybe next week, PJ.

Top: Gap outlet
Dress: Thrifted, reworked a bit
Leggings: Wal-Mart
Boots: Croc outlet (BOGO w/my fabulous SIL)

Some mornings I know exactly what I want to wear. Today was one of those mornings….but I couldn’t find my grey leggings, so, this. Another go-to dress that I love. Don’t tell anyone, but this outfit is so comfortable it feels like pajamas. I really shouldn’t be allowed to wear it to work it’s so comfortable. And dont even get me started on the boots. I love these boots. It’s an internal battle not to wear them every day.

I did worry that my new student teacher would think I was a hippie who lives in a van, though.

Top: Target (Christmas gift from my momma)

Jeans: Old Navy (Christmast gift from my SIL)

Boots:  JC Penny Day-After-Thanksgiving Sale

The boots are more light suede than they appear in the picture, I promise.  Today was YET ANOTHER day when I knew exactly what I wanted to wear and even laid it out the night before only to have my best-laid (out–HA!) plans foiled.  Again.  Cut to me scrambling around, cut to this shirt laying on the floor near me when I realized my first shirt wasn’t going to work for school (it’s been relegated to the “Date Night Only” category) and cut to me throwing it on and running out the door.  I have got to get this closet cleaned up, folks.  And maybe try on outfits the night before.

So that’s all for this week’s Ladies Room Fashion Show.  What did you think? Did you like it? Hate it? Think it was okay?  Is this the type of post you’d like to see on a weekly basis???  Leave some comments & let me know!!
